A long cry against violence and injustice.
Crossing31mn54 color stereo 2009 Netherlandsby Frans Van Lentself-productionself-distributionThe work "Crossing" is a confrontation of two different time-structures. On one hand there is a repetitive form, the track of the car with "on the rear-seat" the public. On the other hand there is my performance, a linear time-structure : passing ± 5 meters of street in 30 minutes time.
The public is confronted with different stages of this performance only five times during their trip. Further on they know the performance is going on in their absence. The crossing is so slowly (only a few millimeters every step), that for the carpassengers it is not noticeable as actually "moving". It is not a work for looping as an installation. It is really meant for screening and watching it the 31 minutes. If you decide to show it, please show it in that way. For this procedure, the woman's urine was injected into the body of the frog, and from the frog's physical reaction the gynecologist would have an answer. A steady supply of frogs was needed to supply these answers, and the artist's father made his living fishing swamps for this very purpose. In the context of this procedure, the frog's body is the indicator of either life or absence. The video "frog test" is an artistic interpretation to those facts.

Il s’en passe3mn b/w sil 2008 Canadaby Belinda Campbellself-productiondistribution : Groupe Intervention VidéoWhile in Paris, I shot some black and white film in Super 8. Illumination Complete, Action #55mn22 color stereo 2008 Italyby Andrea Dojmiself-productionself-distributionThe set for the "action # 5" turned out to be a basketball court inside an oratory in Como, Italy. Interworld7mn11 b/w sil 2008 Canadaby Michael Filimowiczself-productionself-distribution"Interworld" is composed of overlapping visual pulses- each pulse being a momentary articulation of the body, engaging in a temporal polemic with the approach to time and change found in Brakhage’s work, which so often ignores the minute repetitions to be discovered in even the most fleeting of perceptual experiences. King Nothing6mn53 color stereo 2008 Germanyby Paul Wiersbinskiself-productionself-distributionIn the near future contemporary art has become a matter of supply and demand. The cabaret of a sadistic curator, greedy collectors and mindless audience is making its way through a blockbuster exhibition of the latest art star. The illusion of endless profit has become reality and the more real it becomes, the more we believe in everything we are told. L'art délicat de la matraque4mn b/w stereo 2009 Franceby Jean-Gabriel Périotself-productiondistribution : HEURE EXQUISE !About the policemen's sensibility. Experimental and poetic adaptation of a traditional tale which, for the author, rather becomes a place of exploration and wandering, sensitive to an esthetics close to Street Art. La Vénus au coffret9mn30 color mono 2009 Franceby Olivier Guidouxself-productionself-distributionA man crosses a deserted town and spends the night in a lonely park. In the morning, he decides to explore the place, which seems endless. Landowner4mn color & b/w sil 2009 Portugalby Jonathan Francoself-productionself-distributionThe figure of a man disappears and reappears in a field of abundant vegetation. This movement generates a thematic tension between landscape and portrait. Distinct levels of interpretation and contemplation are enhanced while also exploring possibilities of painting, drawing and photography within the moving images. The black and white picture was taken in the mid fifties. Landscape Memory #12mn color stereo 2009 Brazilby Arthur Tuotoself-productionself-distributionWhy so green and lonely ? The video "Landscape Memory #1" is an abstract piece filmed on a mobile phone. The work reveals how this new media deals with the fragile aspect of the image. Las Vegas Shadows4mn22 b/w stereo 2009 Franceby Christophe Guérinself-productiondistribution : Light coneLas Vegas : a fast-growing junkspace spreads in the desert, populated by moving shadows. The urban frame and the crowd are condensed into one dimension to form an abstract image of the city, disembodied and melancholic. In a continuous movement that seems endless, the landscape is written. Le bout du monde4mn13 color stereo 2009 Franceby Christian Lajoumardproduction : Acrobates Filmsself-distributionAt Funchal, on the Madeira island, before going across oceans for unknow places, sailors leave on the warfs and seawalls a last message of their attendance.

The boy and the girl actually are the same person. The girl is in the middle of feeling like a girl and a boy. Losing Ground13mn color stereo 2009 Canadaby Isabelle Hayeurself-productionself-distribution"Losing Ground" is a critique of urban sprawl and the resulting erosion and homogenization of the countryside across the world. With its negation of city history, of geographic particularities, and thus of cultural memory, this standardized urbanization imposes its amnesia, individualistic lifestyle, and jarring presence in nature.
Filmed in Quartier DIX30 in Brossard, the biggest lifestyle center in Canada, the video sounds out recently man-made territories so as to decipher humanity’s relationships with the environment. It confronts us with the dizzying spectacle of our diminishing local references, as they give way to cultural stereotypes, now become universal through globalization. Magia6mn35 color stereo 2010 Franceby Gérard Cairaschiself-productiondistribution : HEURE EXQUISE !A young boy molds objects with clay that he then manipulates, combines and associates, in an obscure ritual. As the objects/representations he creates combine and develop a narrative, the fast alternation of images on the screen imbricate and shape images/apparitions that only the “lanterna magica” of cinema and the magic of editing allow. Magica means enchantment. Mala apokalipsa41mn01 color stereo 2008 Sloveniaby Alvaro Petricigproduction : Kinoateljedistribution : Kinoatelje"Mala apokalipsa" (Minor Apocalypse) is neither a documentary nor fiction. Paradoxically, it could be defined as "science-fiction documentary", for it is based on a true story – the death of a village. Cisgne is (was) a small settlement in the Nadiža / Natisone Valleys which, similarly to many other mountain or remote settlements, was left to abandonment and ruin by the economic reasoning of our modern lifestyle. The last inhabitants left Cisgne after the earthquake in 1976 when the abandonment of the village and transfer to other settlements in the valley below was imposed on the village dwellers as the only possible solution even though their village only suffered minor damages. The story is a patchwork of testimonies and memories of the village’s daily life and its destiny, with deeply involving and even painful memories awoken by images as persistent as nightmares and almost corroded by the very substance of the memory itself, combined with intuitive reflections on the meaning of time in a village in ruin which may arise in an "outsider", uninfluenced by the life stories of those involved. When apocalypse approaches settlements such as Cisgne, it comes quietly, without a proper announcement, for the events occurring at the very "periphery of an empire" are of no interest to anybody. What is visible to the eye is insatiable vitality with which nature, indifferent to major or minor events in the village’s history, burries and destroys the traces of human experience.
Meanwile, many Cisgnes in the Nadiža / Natisone Valleys await a similar fate.

Mental Laxative12mn25 b/w stereo 2010 Spainby Daniel Rodrigoself-productionself-distribution"Mental laxatives" are the social vaccine to promote people brimming with self-esteem. In the uncertain times of a new media revolution : human beings with high self confidence making independent decisions, taking risks, vigorously pursuing new ideas, and acting on their own initiative are needed to take on the world for the 21st century. Meta Vision4mn16 color & b/w stereo 2008 Taiwanby Hsin-Wei Chenself-productionself-distributionCombined with the footage of 3 different films that already made. Mi nombre es Wilfried6mn30 color stereo 2009 Germanyby Wilfried Agricola de Cologneself-productionself-distributionVisiting Santa Rosa Dell’Agua (a village located at Lake Maracaibo ) becomes an allegory how the author is perceiving his own identity. The Spanish language used in the film, has a specific relevance, but might be any other language than the author's own mother language, it stands for being a stranger, the will to communicate, but also the inability to understand each other. The visit become a re-identification. Midge1mn32 color stereo 2009 USAby Julia Oldhamself-productionself-distribution"Midge" is a performance shot as a reflection on the water. The movements are inspired by the insect nymphs and larvae that live just below the surface. Mudeye1mn51 color stereo 2009 USAby Julia Oldhamself-productionself-distribution"Mudeye" is an exploration of movements found in an aquatic insect community in a creek in Iowa. Music Video for a Pop Song4mn color stereo 2008 USAby L. Ashwyn Collinsself-productionself-distribution"Music Video for a Pop Song" is a video set to a manipulated version of Britney Spears’ breakout hit "Baby One More Time". The piece addresses the intersection of sexuality, gender, popular culture, beauty, and the grotesque. "Music Video for a Pop Song" depicts three simultaneous videos of heavily rouged lips. As the audio shifts from the genuine song to a slower version, the videos fall in and out of sync with the sound. As a result, the piece exists in a liminal space between connection and disconnection, beautiful and grotesque, masculine and feminine. my loneliness is a lazy prostitute4mn05 color stereo 2009 USAby Joy Whalenproduction : Joy Productionsdistribution : Joy ProductionsAlthough a desire for love and companionship exists for most of us, there are times when all that it takes to make love possible becomes too much to bear. Despite aloneness, the prospect of caring greatly and getting hurt again is much less inviting. Apathy grows, and yet we still wish for love ; in this work I undergo the cycle of yearning and backing away.

Objets oubliés16mn35 color & b/w stereo 2009 Italyby Fabio Scacchioliself-productionself-distributionThis film is born from the discover of 4 short film footage in the street (real found footage !) showing : 1. a tourist with a photo camera sit on the ground 2. a small rowing boat go away 3. a couple come down from a staircase 4. a gun shooting from an old, unknown western film. The film protagonist is a voice without a body searching your organic identity between the images. The voice try to find a link between the 4 film footage, but this is extremely difficult, and perhaps useless. Gratuitous techniques have been keystones in both propaganda and film making in the 20th century and over time, connotations -symbolic, political or otherwise- allow us to manipulate sound and images to gratuitously inflict our own narrative and connotations. We at Gratuitous Art Films dig deep into the trenches of obscura ephemera, sourcing from over 65 years of public domain material ranging from the propaganda of the Prelinger archives to the wax cylinders in Thomas Edison’s Attic. The very sources of the material form a foundational context that allows these short films to work with so many layers. The corporate lens and the time of its conception make each film source a treasure trove of metaphor and social relevance.
Pieced together through modern cynicism and progressive design aesthetics, a dry dark wit extends a hand and slaps you across the face. Some of it is recognizable as the advertorial campaigns, or entertainment of our youth. Others are lost beacons of amateur video capturing decaying Kodak moments of our lives, doubly sweet for the treasure trove of glitches that are the lost trademarks of the non-digital film era.
The dated sources of material form a familiar pallet, offering incredible production values and a temperament that would be nearly impossible to reproduce today. From hair and make up to dance productions, the type of footage we use in our films produces a desaturated sanguine that borders on bittersweet mental illness.

Manos and Buckius frantically zoom around the confined space on their rolling chairs in an attempt to retrieve and stack the papers endlessly being processed through the printers. The paperwork just never seems to end, as they race against the clock and an unknown deadline ! The MBC embraces purposelessness ! Our aim is to energize a space with our activities, and suggest new interpretations for existing structures both in the social/political and environmental/architectural sense. Formalist aesthetics...patterned yet spontaneous movement...vibrant colors and actions…we are Jacques Tati meets DEVO. Working as a team, we interact physically with everyday objects and technological devices by using them to perform unconventional, bizarre and highly non- productive tasks. The work proposes that everyday objects and technologies might be reinterpreted in absurd, playful, and strange ways, and that the nature of productivity and function be re-examined. This work questions levels of authority and control : are we in control of technology, our immediate environment, and institutional systems, or is the reverse true ? Our work has included photography, mediated performances (live-feed to video monitor or projector), live performance with projections, videos, video installation with projections, and video installation with sculpture.
The MBC is particularly interested in spaces that offer a potential for site-specific work, and we are often drawn to irregular and notably compartmental areas or rooms. We work specifically to the confines of a space, and each space becomes heterotopic through the experience.

The soundtrack, a feminine voice(vote), quotes Deleuze. Antoine Miserey realizes here a video consisted of fragments of films which evoke personal, amateur films, memories (souvenirs) of holidays in the minimal narrative contents. The "heroines" ("heroin") of these short histories are feminine faces (figures) which appear by moment and which seem to be the objects of this desire, the subject of which would be the voice-over, another woman. It is thus question of escaped (fleeting) desires of a woman for women, in particular environments which are appropriate (clean) for them, the "layouts" ("organizations") about which speaks Deleuze. This video can so appear as a continuation (suite) of memories (souvenirs). The title, a mark (brand) of beer, in the rough tones, evokes maybe on the contrary the rough drive, and between contrasts it with the gently nostalgic contents of the video.
